Skidding on into Austin!

A trailer full of obstacles, water coolers, and big wheels will be hitting ATX tomorrow morning. We're getting ready for triple digit heat every day - I swear it was never that hot when I lived there!

Vytis from Ozone said to get used to the heat of Austin I should get used to the 2nd lowest setting of the toaster oven. Well...for all of you participating next weekend, don't fret. We have multiple water slides and 3 obstacles (maybe more) where you'll be getting wet!

In other news, while perusing the local craigslist, I found this post. Mr. Swift inquired for more info and got this:

Hi Jesse, Thanks for the interest and the photo. We are still looking for one cyclist to model for us. The client is real specific about wanting to have the "pro body" cyclist. Any chance you can send me a photo with your shirt off? Just in a pair of cycling shorts would be great. If you look like you'll fit the part, I'll give you all of the specifics. Thanks, Tim

Jesse's certainly got nothing to be ashamed of..but we'd never let you live it down.

And speaking Jesse - he sent this rather entertaining clip of Rubik's Cube art. Sweet.

And speaking of other sweet things...we went to a charity dog wash at Lefthand Brewery. Nothing like getting buzzed, while you dogs get man-handled by 5 women.
Then it was time for a fixie ride.
We chose to ride the bike paths by the flooded St Vrain river. Not the best idea, but it was refreshing.

So there you have it. Off to ATX for the BIGGEST BIKE RACE IN TX!!!!!

I guess crack does a body good.

Apparently the residual effects of his crack addiction have served Chad Gerlach well. As some of you may remember, Chad Gerlach was the subject of the show 'Intervention'. A pro cyclist for the USPS team in years past, Chad decided he liked "The Rock" more than "Rock Racing".

Now Chad is again racing professionally - and winning races. So now it's time for him to train hard and be the next american cycling hero. Hamilton's out (doping and illegal anti-depressants), Landis is out (testosterone), Armstrong is getting too old...now what? What America needs is a real comeback story. Just think of how many people down on their luck, passed out in a meth house, would look to Chad's story for motivation. They'd say "Sure - one more rock please. After I come down, I can just jump on my NEXT bmx bike and train to be like Chad." I can see it now. Go Chad!

cRaZy weather

I hit the road for a short ride during a break in the rain.
AS I headed west, I could see a storm over Boulder. There was literally a wall where the rain started. When I got close to it, I could almost put one leg in the rain and keep one leg out. Then the wind picked up. Judging from the speed of the debris flying down the road, I was moving faster than the storm (I had a tailwind). But then another cloud opened up infront of me. So I was in the middle of two storms trying to stay out of the mess. I'm no meteorologist, but it seems like it's good time for hail or a tornado or something like that. Luckily, I just got wet (note to self: always bring a plastic bag for the cell phone).

And of course, when I got home, after 2 minutes, the rain stopped and the sun was out. And you know what that means...

Today, I'll ride early and try to avoid it all.

Lyons

We headed down to the neighboring town of Lyons for the Outdoor Games this weekend.

Kayaking, beer, bikes, dog jumping...it was right up our alley.

We first checked out Shamus and his doggie cannonball skills. He tore it up to say the least. We're working on our dog's jumping distance so we can enter them next year.

Then I headed down for the Short Track race.

Racing is hard - I forgot that. A nice little short track race was exactly what I needed to break in the lungs.

Then we headed over to the pump track 'race'. The day before we dropped by on the dirt jumping bikes to give the pump track a couple laps. But...it was too muddy and there were kids with a water pump trying to drain the puddles....then it started raining again. But this was no problem for the quick-thinkers of the Lyons Outdoor fest!
Just hover a heli over the dirt - that'll dry it out in no time. Sweet!

Then it was AWWWWN! The pumpers went to work and showed everybody how it's done.

Here's Jon Watt - tearing it up.

Long time no see

Sorry for the break in postings folks...we've been doing some bike riding lately and well...sometimes it's better to be outside than pecking away at the keyboard.

but that doesn't mean there's nothing to report. Far from it!

Jackie and I have been testing out the new UAR longboards. They've made an appearance at a couple events so far this season.
We call this one the 'Plunger Paddle'.

It's getting nice and hot outside - which in our world only means that it's time for slip and slides.
Portland Slip N Sliders have skills
Speaking of Portland, our friends Sarah and Alvaro (freshly back from life in Costa Rica) paid us a visit and kindly manned out checkin/results table. You two are the best!
These days are some of the best for riding in Colorado - as this photo exemplifies. The trails are buff and the weather's perfect. The road riding is swell too.

Here's an interesting video. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't put my kid in this position (that of sheer terror). However, I do like the costume on the dog and would happily dress up my pups in this manor. So maybe that's just as bad.

And since we're playing videos...here's a great cover.

but of course - not as good as the original.

And have I mentioned how excited I am for THIS. I'm really, REALLY excited.

So that's my list for today.
Go ride your bike, then drink a beer with a lime in it.
